The Eid Food Swap is a small fun way to spread some love by sharing homemade treats, recipes, and traditions with other members of the Food Swap community within Canada and the USA on the occasion of Eid.
The community was born back in 2018 after founder, Izzah, participated in the Food 52 Holiday Swap. She especially loved connecting with people plus getting a surprise package of food. What started on a whim with 14 people participating, today is a community with over 50 people!
Putting together her love of food, entertaining and connecting with people, founder, Izzah, decided to put together the Eid Food Swap.
The main purpose was to create a community of people who enjoy using food as a medium to add joy to their lives especially during the celebratory occasion for Muslims - Eid.
Inspired by the response of the Eid Food Swap, the Iftar Swap started in 2021 during another Ramadan spent in lockdown.
This was again a means of furthering connection with people but most importantly embracing the generosity, giving and sharing spirit of Ramadan.
Salaam! I’m Izzah,
founder & coordinator of the Eid Food Swap.
I'm a full-time mother to four-year-old twins and like to think of myself as a part-time food artist in the tiny gaps between mealtimes, naps, clean-ups and baths.
With a degree in nutrition, a diploma in the culinary arts, a food photography hobby, a passion for hoarding cookbooks and crockery and a serious love for eating - Eid Food Swap was a natural extension of my interests. Growing up in a Desi Muslim household, hosting guests and feeding them was less of a ritual, and more of a religion.
In 2017 I moved to Canada after getting married. The move shook me out of my comfortable bubble and the need for finding a new social circle led me to take part in Food52's Holiday Swap
It was such a great experience and so inspiring that I knew immediately, that this was the organized effort the Muslims in North America needed to celebrate Eid and community in it's true spirit.
